How to print or save a WhatsApp Web chat as a PDF

Many people try Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac) on WhatsApp Web. When we printed it from Chrome on a Mac, we got one page with only part of the chat. For a complete PDF, export the chat from your phone and open the file on your computer.

What happens when you print WhatsApp Web with Ctrl+P

WhatsApp Web shows recent messages and loads older ones as you scroll. When we printed it from Chrome on a Mac (November 2026), the preview was a single page with the whole WhatsApp layout:

That was one chat in one browser, and we have not tried Safari, Firefox, Edge or Windows. If you do print this way, look at the preview first: it can show who else you talk to and what they wrote.

Why you can't export from WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp Web has no Export chat option. It is in the WhatsApp app on your phone, which makes a file with the messages and, if you choose, the photos.

Get the whole chat as a PDF on your computer

  1. On your phone, export the chat and send the file to your computer, for example by email or to a cloud drive. A chat with many photos can be too big for email. Here is the guide with pictures.
  2. On your computer, open Amberword and choose the export file. You see a free preview of your PDF straight away, and your browser does the work: the chat is not uploaded.
  3. Download the PDF, open it and press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac) to print it, or keep it as it is.

You can also do all of this on your phone. See how to print WhatsApp messages.

If you only need a few messages

Take a screenshot of those messages and crop out the list of chats before you print or share it.

Browser extensions for WhatsApp Web

Some browser extensions offer to save chats from WhatsApp Web. We have not tested them. An extension that works on that page can usually read what the page shows, so check who makes it and what access it asks for before you install it.

Turn your chat into a PDF: the preview is free.
